Whether commercial or residential, the modern world is currently seeing an increase in water reclamation practices. Reclaimed water, perhaps better described as "recycled water," is wastewater that has been filtered and treated for reuse, thereby limiting the need for fresh water use. This practice has increased in popularity over recent years. GAO reported 36 states as using reclaimed water in 2013, compared to just 23 states in 2003.

In this RO pilot video, Jonathan Harn, project engineer with Harn R/O Systems, introduces one of our membrane filtration (MF) pilot units designed to operate standalone or as pre-treatment to our reverse osmosis (RO) pilot units. Membrane filtration is designed to remove suspended particles from water whereas reverse osmosis (RO) is designed to remove dissolved particles from water.

Pilot systems are the most cost-effective method of testing membrane plant designs. The basic idea is that a pilot system can be implemented at a fraction of the cost of the full system, and then full implementation follows after the design has been optimized and potential obstacles have been worked out.
